The total number of dematerialised scrips increased from 5057 million on end December 1998 to 6420 million on February 27, 1999 showing an increase of about 27 per cent. It resulted in increase in value of trade in the form of dematerialised trading from Rs.702 billion to Rs.970 billion during the same period. The market capitalisation value of the scrips amounted to Rs.3598 billion on February 27, 1999 as compared with Rs.3351 billion on end December 1998(see appendix).

 

Certificate of Commencement of Business granted to Central Depository Services (India) Ltd. (CDSL)

 

The SEBI had given registration to the Central Depository Services (India) Ltd. (CDSL), on August 19, 1998, which has been sponsored by the Stock Exchange, Mumbai (BSE), Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank Ltd. The subscribed capital of CDSL is Rs. 100 crore. SEBI has issued the certificate of commencement of business to CDSl in accordance with the SEBI (Depositories & Participants) Amendment Regulations, 1997. The CDSL is the second depository being set-up in the country after National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), under the Depositories Act, 1996 and the SEBI Regulations.
